Bantam "BB" Ice Boltz Win Bronze at Provincials

2010-06-10

2009/10 Bantam

After a long and very busy season the Bantam "BB" Ice Boltz, sponsored by Apple Auto Glass, returned home from the Provincials with a Bronze medal.

After a long and very busy season the Bantam "BB" Ice Boltz sponsored by Apple Auto Glass and under the coaching staff of Pierre Vaillancourt, Rob ( Maisy ) Maissonneau, Ray St. Pierre and trainer Trudi Chenier, have returned with a Bronze medal from the OWHA provincials held this past weekend in the Toronto area.

Round robin play began on Friday with two games. The team was missing three players heading into the tournament. Rachelle Mancini with an ankle injury, Kaomi Barnhardt with a broken collar bone and goalie Paige Bailey suffered a knee injury one week before. With Bailey out Coach Vaillancourt had the task of finding a goalie eligible to play with the team and Alyssa Davis was select from Georgina in the Toronto area.

In game one the girls can out to play beating Windsor Wildcats 2-1, but losing another player with a two game suspension for an OWHA rule that states if a penalty is called on a play and the player is injured and leaves the ice it is an automatic two game suspension. Friday night with lots of ice time to shares the girls beat Hamilton Hawks 3-0. The last round robin game was Saturday against Aurora, a team that pick up goalie Davis played against. Unfortunately Aurora won 1-0 and the Ice Boltz learned a valuable lesson to never stop playing with 110% effort. With a three way tie in the pool, North Bay ended in first sending them to the QRTr's on Saturday night, the girls were success with a 5-1 win over Kingston Ice wolves.

The Semi's placed the Boltz against a strong Waterloo team. it was very exciting with the two teams playing the same style of hockey and Waterloo came up the winners 1-0. Zoe St.Pierre was put out with an injured knee.

Heading into the bronze medal game, the girls were not going to make the same mistake as once again they were meeting Aurora. Coming out to play the girls set the story straight and won 7-1.

Many hours through the season were spend at off ice training with Darren Turcotte, at Elite Hockey with Ron Gravelle and his staff and Weekly trips to "THE CREEK" for on ice practice. The first tournament was a camping experience in mid Sept and was the best team bonding function the girls have ever had. Wrapping up the season with a total of seven tournament and provincial's the young ladies, would like to thank the coaching staff, their parents, and all their special trainers for their time and advice and effort through out the year and especially corporate sponsor APPLE AUTO GLASS, who helped to make it financial possible.
