North Bay Ice Boltz Wrap Up Successful 2021/22 Representative Campaign

The North Bay and District Girls Hockey Association wrapped up a successful 2021/22 representative campaign which saw the association bring home many medals and four teams advance to the 2022 OWHA Provincial Championship.

The U18AA All Risk Insurance Ice Boltz showed lots of growth as the season progressed. The AA team played in the Ontario Women’s Hockey League Central North Division where they finished with 4 wins, 8 losses and 10 ties. The team worked hard not only on the ice this season but also putting in work off the ice to be ready for all aspects of competition. The U18AA teams hard work showed as they brought a silver medal back to North Bay from the 41st Annual Toronto Leaside Wildcats March Break Madness Tournament.

The U18AA also deserves a mention for honouring the Nipissing Lakers Women’s Hockey Team prior to their last home game of the season vs Sudbury on April 2nd. The Ice Boltz honoured each player on the Lakers with an Ice Boltz puck and a yellow rose for their accomplishment as well as being great role models for all members of the Ice Boltz association. The Ice Boltz were victorious winning 2-1 over the Lady Wolves.

The U15AA Dave’s Heating and Cooling Ice Boltz hit the ice in September of 2021 knowing they had a lot of hard work to do, as this was the first year all 16 players on the team would be playing at the AA level. The players on the U15AA team set personal and team goals and worked hard towards achieving these goals. This included, but is not limited to many hours of CrossFit, getting up early to attend morning skills sessions, and making sure that they were staying fit and hitting the ODRs during the Covid shutdown in January.

The U15AA team finished their regular season league play with a 3-16-1 record in the OWHL Central Division. But as a team the girls and coaching staff continued to show resiliency and determination and ended the season by outplaying Sudbury during play downs in early March, which earned them a spot in the OWHA Provincial championships in April.

The U15B Ice Boltz had an outstanding season, bringing 3 medals back to North Bay during the 2021-22 campaign. The U15B Ice Boltz was the first team to bring a gold medal back to North Bay after a long-awaited return to the ice for many. The U15B team headed to the nation’s capital in November of 2021 where they went undefeated to return to North Bay as the 38th Annual Kanata Girls Hockey Association Competitive tournament champions. In February the Ice Boltz headed to Brampton to take part in the 25th Annual Cougars Friendship Festival where they come home as silver medalists, a few weeks later the Ice Boltz started the March break in the GTA where they also come home with a silver medal this time from the 41st Annual Toronto Leaside Wildcats March Break Madness Tournament.

The Eagles Nest U13A Ice Boltz had a phenomenal season with a breakthrough second half that saw them bring two gold medals back to North Bay as well as finish in the top 8 at the Ontario Provincial Championship to round out their season. The U13A team saw a consistent team effort during the season 2021-22 season that paid off with some tournament championship victories as well as a string team effort at the OWHA provincial championship in April. The team brought home a gold medal from the Durham Boltz and Hearts tournament as well as a gold medal from the 41st Annual Toronto Leaside Wildcats March Break Madness Tournament. The coaching staff was very proud of the effort that the U13A girls showed all season.

The U13B Ice Boltz worked hard this season to battle their way through covid and injuries with often as many as 4 players out of the line-up. The U13B team showed resilience winning the NDHL championship against the Kirkland Lake Blue Devils and advancing to the OWHA Provincial Championship. The coaching staff is very proud of the team and the adversity they faced all season.

The Andre Purcell Team U11A Ice Boltz have a lot to be proud of this season. They worked hard and battled game in and game out during NDHL league play as well as during tournaments and the OWHA Provincial Championship. The U11A team started out the season at a tournament in Barrie where they advanced to the bronze medal game and defeated the Lakeshore Lightning.

In April the U11A team headed to the GTA for the OWHA Provincial Championships where they played some of their best hockey of the season. The U11A team had a 3-0-0 record heading into the quarter finals. In the quarter finals the Ice Boltz fell just short of the semi-finals losing 1-0 in overtime. The U11A team should be very proud of their top 8 finish at the Provincial Championship.
