We will be working with a Nipissing University student completing her Degree in the Bachelor of Physical Education program. Part of her degree is a Practicum Course where students have to take what they've learned about the body and about physical education and apply it, then be graded on the program. The students apply like it is a job and work with the employer or client, us, like they would when they are in the professional world. I was very specific when I talked to the program director about ensuring that we wanted a female student and then a hockey player is a bonus.
The student's name is Meg Redmond and she played OWHA AA hockey in the Ottawa area for the Ottawa Lady Sens. Meg is in her third year at Nipissing and transferred from Queens University where she completed her first 2 years of University. I think this will be a great fit for us, to have a female hockey player lead our team through a strength training program. I met with Meg last week to discuss her program and goals. She will be drawing from her AA experiences and her courses to create a season plan for us. I've let her know when our tournaments are so that she has an idea of milestones in our season.
Dryland will take place at the Robert Surtees Athletic Center at Nipissing University.
Attendance is very important for this first one especially. After this one, we will be moving to Monday nights @ 6 pm - 7:30 pm
See you there!
