This year the North Bay & District Girls Hockey Association has teamed up with You Can Play in order to deliver an important message about creating and being part of Inclusive spaces.
"You Can Play seeks to challenge the culture of locker rooms and spectator areas by developing a culture of respect in every player, coach and fan.The You Can Play Project works to ensure the safety and inclusion for all who participate in sports, including LGBTQ+ athletes, coaches and fans. We achieve this by creating a community of allies that is able to foster a true sense of belonging. This becomes possible when sports teams sharpen their focus on a person’s skills, work ethic, and competitive spirit--not their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression." Inclusivity is an important aspect of any sport, and our Association wants to do its part to ensure that we are providing all players with the tools and resources they need to be able to play an effective role in creating safe and inclusive spaces for everyone.
We are pleased to Announce that we are hosting 2 offerings of the Allyship 101 Training for all players and parents and coaching staff. The content of the training is geared to ages 13 and up. Please choose the session that works best for your team.
Given the importance of this messaging and teaching, these sessions are being made mandatory for all players and coaching staff for teams categorized at U15 and up. Parents are encouraged to attend as well so that they are aware of the messaging being provided through the content. We suggest making it a team event by getting the team together for a meal and to participate in the training as a group, however this is not a requirement. Coaches will be required to confirm attendance of all their players.
Note: **These dates will be populated into your Team RAMP account to ensure they're not missed.
